First, let me say, wholly crap this thread is a lot to digest. Thankfully, I've had my first beer.
I think the first point of contention is an easy one to address. Rangers did not sign the player in the contract thread. His use of the player despite not being signed can only be considered a desperate attempt to beat the Phillies and save face at work.
The second concern is a bit deeper but still clearly stated in the rules under the following header. ABANDONED BIDS OF UFAs The Commissioner shall post the player with his contract and salary in Waivers.
As Thomas Justinferson said, you can't claim a player that isn't waived, and in this case, the player isn't waived until the commish says, "Bippity, Boppity, Waived" In Phillip Humber the Mighty's case, that happened at 3:14AM this morning. The BS about , "the Commish should not be able to affect the appropriate week by slow or fast posting an abandonment waive." would hold water if the Commish were a crooked SOB from Chicago. In this case, he is not, it's Bobby from Phoenix, where its too hot to cheat at cards. To confirm that he didn't intend to take advantage of a slow posting, Bobby didn't post until 3:14AM when he was sure BoSox was good and asleep, even though it cost the newly improved White Sox the claim. Mets by a meager .5 game of suckitude over the Cubs are the 14th place team and should win the claim automatically without delay.
Though we as a group are generally a self governing league, we do assign one guy to wear the Commish sombrero. With that, nobody else gets to bitch when the Commish takes a little longer to get around to posting the waiver. It's hot in Phoenix, sometimes it takes longer to unass the plastic lawn chair and put on the sombrero.
Moving forward to next year, I like the solution that says abandoned bids and completely innocent beat the Phillies clerical errors which result in nonsigning of a player should throw that player back in the UFA pool. It lessens the responsibilty of the sombero victim to address the problem and puts the power back in the peoples hands. I realize this means the A's also get input that way, but one has to take the good with the stuff that comes out of Cleveland.
In summary, 1. Damnit Rangers, if you didn't sign so many friggin players, you wouldn't lose one. Don't let it happen again. 2. The sombrero looks good on Bobby. 3. Mets get Humber and it doesn't help. 4. I need another beer.
