I was asked today if a player should lose his RFA rights if he is in the wrong RFA category. This is not covered in the LC.
We attempt to list them in a category that they qualify for. I sometimes move a guy I know won't qualify for that position to a position he does. Their site makes certain things clear but there is no clarity in their written rules for no play or partial play (like 4 starts at 2B, 3 at SS, 4 at 3B).
I sent a query in December on a player put in our UTIL slot. They replied he would have NO position, just DH having not played last year. Now I see Yahoo gives him 2 positions, 1B and LF. So much for their help.
There would be NO loss of RFA rights if a player is in the wrong thread, as we have no control over Yahoo eligibility. We do our best and if anyone sees a player in a slot we know he won't qualify for before bidding starts, we will move him.
As many learned years ago, and some recently, no listing at all before the deadline has been and continues to be the loss of matching rights.
