1. Bids count against the roster limit but claims do not.
This issue was brought up by the A’s during the season. It is my understanding that the A’s no longer have a problem with the different treatment.
In a nutshell, requiring a waive to claim, is a. detrimental to losing teams, which waiver order is designed to help; b. waiver period will essentially become a 2 minute period instead of 48 hours; and c. will actually bring time zones into play, which we endeavor to eliminate.
2. Player movement on Yahoo is processed for the next day. Since you cannot use the player you are receiving, you ARE allowed to use the player you are trading away. Think of trades as being reviewed and approved overnight.
3. Prospect release should be closer to the beginning of the season and moved to match the deadline for contract setting (about one week before Opening Day). Allows a longer look at prospects and one less deadline to forget. Don't forget the player must clear waivers PRIOR to cancel.
