Brandon McCarthy has been hired as a special assistant to Rangers general manager Jon Daniels. McCarthy posted a 4.92 ERA and 65/21 K/BB ratio over 78 2/3 innings this past season with the Braves. The 35-year-old right-hander's playing days are over.
