Offseason Agenda:
Ok so we still have a newer batch of owners in this league right now. I hope this past year has helped avoid the confusion when you try and learn our rules in full.
My advice to our newer owners. It took me two maybe three seasons to really “get it”. That’s not to say you cannot be successful. We have seen that already with the Athletics success. However there are little nuances we have that other leagues do not. I think it really makes it fun though.
What we’re doing right now. Well right now we have all posted our rosters for next year. All multi year contracts need to be decreased by a year. All our expiring contracts have now become our own restricted Free agents. We own the right to match the final high bid during our RFA/UFA bidding period in February on those players.
We are deciding if we want to reclaim any waived and paying guys that have multi year contracts. Next opportunity to reclaim will be during our Owners Meetings (Dec 17-Jan 1). Also during this time we can waive any players we don’t want on our 40 man roster...bad contracts. Other teams can place claims on those waived. If they pass through waivers (48hrs) during meetings they will be able to be bid on as UFA during our bidding immediately and will not have to clear waivers again. Read waiver rules if this didn’t make sense.
We are deciding if we want to place a Qualifying offer on one or two of our expiring RFA guys. This means you want to keep a player for one more year on a one year deal. You want to bypass the RFA bidding period and squeeze out one more year. Here’s the catch. Next year you won’t have his rights he will be a UFA. His salary hit or contract for that one year would be his 2018 ending dollar amount plus $15. Playoff teams get one Qualifying offer and Non playoff get two qualifying offers to use. You can trade for someone else’s RFA and do it that way if you don’t have a RFA you want to pay that.
We can also make trades. Only can post trades during meetings in offseason up till actual bidding period. But feel free to make deals in the down time.
Lastly we should be posted all of our RFA (expiring contracts from 2018) in the RFA bidding areas. Each player will be posted in the position they play. So I posted Yadier Molina’s RFA post/thread in the catcher area for RFA. Says catchers 2018. We use words like thread here instead of post. FYI.
Ok I think I’ve covered where we are at and what we should be finishing up. Meetings in few weeks and till then start doing some shopping!! It’s Hot Stove Holiday Time!!
