Waiving a 1 year $1 dollar guy (Read 233 times)

Per rules: Bidding, Years, Prospects section :

((((( If you bid and clear a waived player off another’s roster and sign him to a $1/1/$1 contract, he must be rostered for a minimum of 72 hours. )))))

This has come up recently and I was originally mistaken. If you bid a UFA or RFA you have ability to waive immediately. However if your clearing a waived player need to roster if signed for a year at a buck.

During the season contracts must be stated in the signing. Preseason signings do not require a term to be assigned. I have signed Joseph to a $1* contract. not a 1/1/1. Therefore do I have to keep him for 72 hours? The Constitution does not cover this scenario.

Interesting. Honestly I’m not a fan of this rule. I completely understand the premise but feel 3 days is too much. You’ve made the financial commitment and you have waived a player to sign said player.

So in this situation huh. Without actual verbiage that would be considered a “grey area”. So no commissioner cannot make you adhere to in season guidelines. So in the case of KROD Cards should have just signed and waited to assign contract.

Will address in off-season in some way.

so can I sign Kirby yates to a $1 3 $2 contract or do I have to stay with a $1 1 $1?

Indians signed him to 1/1/1 contract and that’s the contract that was assumed when claimed.

Ok so what was uncovered was a nice little “grey area” that could be taken advantage of. As of now I don’t by rule have authority to stop anyone from waiving a $1 signed player who has yet to be assigned contract length.


However if I begin to see abuse to this I will close the loop with “best interest in the league” clause. What I mean is I don’t want any team signing bunches of guys and waiving them immediately. We have two months so even slowly will be noticed. Don’t be obnoxious is what I’m saying. Hoarding players without having to waive by clearing and waiving and round and round we go will be considered pushing the limits. We all know what I’m talking about.
