First things first. I want to thank the Giants and White Sox for the opportunity to be commissioner of the Fantasy Focus League. It's an honor. I am super duper excited. Been with this league for enough time to realize how awesome it is. Spent the last 24 hours thinking about league and fun stuff we can do. I'm weird like that.
This is an exciting time for the league. Lots of fresh meat and new perspective to an already awesome league. Very exciting moving forward!!
I do believe in a democracy when it comes to my being commissioner. As I do understand I will have to make decisions, I also know some will from time to time disagree. So I will defer to my ownership committee of the Giants ChiSox and myself to vote in those circumstances if necessary. Also I have asked the Rangers to act as my consigliere. He will help me with scrubbing rosters and invaluable advice throughout the year.
That being said now it's time to get down to business. We have two owners who we are waiting on to finalize their 2017 rosters. Once that is done we can scrub the rosters and finalize the spreadsheets.
Have a few things I'd like to do a little differently. Mostly cause I think it will be fun, and allow our newer owners chance to familiarize themselves to our world. Also allow teams to see updated rosters as off-season goes along. I promote activity. It's frustrating trying to make deals in off-season without updated rosters imho. I'm hoping we can be open to these new ideas and give them a chance.
Once the spreadsheets are finalized and 2017 rosters have been confirmed by commissioners office we can proceed with off-season fun. I'm allowing my office the next 20 days to get this done.
Then we will commence with my first Winter Owners Meetings. That will start the day after Christmas. The Winter Meetings will run for two weeks. During this time we will reclaim any waived players and have a two week window to make and post trades.
Also during Winter Meetings teams will be allowed to designate the RFA player(s) they will assign a ($15 +'16 salary) qualifying offer too. Per our new rule for upcoming season. Most importantly it will allow ample time to process these transactions well before bidding.
Also during the first week we will have an opportunity to nominate discussion topics for league. This can include rule changes or league business. We will discuss these topics for first week. So by all means think of stuff before we do this . The second week of meetings we will post any vote and will have the full week to vote and make changes for following season.
All RFA will need to be posted in their respective 2017 position threads by the completion of Winter Meetings which will end with kickoff of the college football playoff national championship on Jan 9. These are the threads where we bid on the RFA, for our newest members.
Once meetings have ended any trades will have to wait till GM meetings (read below) to be posted. So gentlemen agreements will have to suffice.
Next will be our GM meetings that will begin on the first of February and continue till super bowl kickoff on the fifth. During this time trades can be posted. This will allow my office few days to process any deals that were made in the time between owners meetings and GM meetings before bidding starts. Also will allow us to make some last minute deals leading up to bidding. This will be last opportunity for teams to sign a player to a qualifying offer. Once the super bowl kicks off chance at signing players to qualifying offers will be over for the offseason. Then on the sixth we will begin our bidding. That will take us up till week before season when all RFA not signed will become UFA.
Then it will be Go Time!
I think I've covered everything. As always any league is only as strong as its owners. If all 14 owners are active league will be active. You don't join a league like this to be dormant. I encourage smack talk all in fun of course. I encourage trades and activity. Let's see those trade blocks. I encourage a healthy conversation of rules.
Have fun with it fellas!!
