WAIVERS
A player may be waived at any time except the time from the beginning of the playoffs until free agency bidding begins. Exception: if Player A is waived just before the playoffs, his 48 hour waiver period continues to it's natural end. If Player A is claimed, the new owner may waive Player B, if it is necessary to comply with roster limits. A player waived after the bid deadline (when the playoffs start), may only be claimed by a non-playoff team. Should a successful claiming team need to waive for roster compliance, again, only a non-playoff team may claim. No deadline would exist should a chain of required waives occur.
A waived player's salary will continue to be paid and count against the team's CAP until the contract has reached its conclusion (all years) unless the player has been claimed or bid on by another team. Responsibility for a waived player, who has cleared waivers, will terminate with the first legitimate UFA bid.
A player remains on waivers for 48 hours. At that time, if there has been a claim put in for the player, he belongs to the team with the highest waiver order that claimed him. Waiver order is the reverse order of the standings. In the offseason the claiming team goes to the bottom of the list. During the season the claiming team does not lose his place in the order. The claiming order during the season is reverse order of the standings as shown on Yahoo at the time of the waive. (A week's standings are used for players waived up to 11:59 PM Pacific Sunday. A player waived after that would be under the new week's standings.)
A player's salary and years remain with the player if claimed during the waiver period.
If a player is not claimed during the waiver period, he may be bid on as a free agent. The waiving team may not bid on the player.
After waiving a player, a minimum of 24 hours is required before the waiving team can reclaim him. The waiving team may reclaim the player at any time (except during the playoffs) as long as the player has not been claimed during waivers or if there is no active bidding on the player after the waiver period. If reclaimed, the salary and years remain unchanged. Reclaiming a player you have waived and are still paying, has no effect on your waiver position.
A claim on a player in waivers may not be retracted. If you claimed a player and you have the highest waiver priority, you own the player and his contract.
You may include waived players in a trade at their full contract, since this combines two permitted actions, reclaiming and trading. It is not necessary to waive other players on your roster for momentary roster size compliance, if reclaimees are reclaimed and concurrently traded. (There is no need for an owner to reclaim Bautista, trade Bautista, waive Papelbon and reclaim Papelbon in concurrent posts to legitimize a momentary reclaim at roster limit.)
RETIREMENT
If a player has OFFICIALLY announced his retirement effective immediately (i.e. no more playing), he may be waived. Upon clearing waivers in this case, the owner's financial responsibility and all ties to the player ends immediately regardless of when the retirement takes place.
If a player announces he WILL be retiring (he will continue to play), an owner's responsibility will continue until the retirement takes effect. This does NOT include players who just walk away from their team (as Mondesi did). Players who walk, like Mondesi, may be waived, but financial responsibility remains unless he is claimed or signed by another team or announces officially his retirement.
TRADES
When posting trades, you must include the teams, players involved and their salary. The trade must be confirmed by the other team. Trades are not reviewed unless considered detrimental to the league's integrity. Money cannot be traded. The CAP of $300 cannot change. Teams cannot exceed the $300 CAP.
*If a confirmed trade will not meet CAP requirements until obligations for waived players are removed for one or both of the participants, the trade is considered pending and players may not be transferred until such CAP compliance has been achieved. If a pending trade does not become CAP compliant within 5 days of the confirmation, the trade is nullified. A subsequent, separate trade, including a player or players involved in a trade still pending, would also be a pending trade. If a trade qualifies as a pending trade, include such information with the post of the trade.* Added 8/14/06
Trading deadline is always 3 weeks before the start of our playoffs. A trade must be posted AND confirmed on this site at or before that time ( Sunday before Week 17) . All trades must be posted and confirmed on this site.
*Teams must have at least 7 multiyear contracts at all times. A trade may not be made if it results in one of the teams having less than 7 multiyear contracts. Exception: Owners participating in a new owner draft are exempt during such draft. If at the conclusion of the draft, a new owner has less than 7, his minimum (until contracts are set) is the number of multiyear players he has at the conclusion of the draft. New owners must achieve compliance when contracts are set (approx. a week before the season).* Added 12/19/06
Players traded away, with CAP hits of $25 or more, may not be reacquired with a lower CAP hit in the same year. (September to September) This applies to any player on your roster at the end of a season or acquired during the off-season or in-season. If you traded the player and the other team waives him, you may claim him if he still has the original contract OR if he has a new contract which has the same CAP hit or higher than it was when you traded him. If the player clears waivers, your first bid would have to be at least CAP matchable.
For instance, if you traded a player with a 21/3/$26 contract, you must bid: - At least $21, and if your bid is successful you must sign him for at least 2 years, eg. 21/2/$26, OR - At least $26 and sign for 1 year 26/1/$26 resulting in at least the same CAP hit.
(Purpose of rule - eliminate possible reduction of cap hit by trade and waive manipulations)
This rule is in effect immediately and includes players rostered at the end of 2009. Added 1/27/10
