Do you mean reacquire by waiver claim?

what about the scenario where someone else picks them up then later in the year you make a trade in which that player is included at the new lower cap price?

Sox waive Wells at $20 CAP hit Friday.

A. No one claims. Somebody bids and acquires him.

If the CAP hit is less than $20, I cannot acquire him in any manner (waive, trade, etc) during 2010 unless his CAP hit is $20 or more.

B. If he was claimed by the Rockies, the CAP would be the same $20 and I could reacquire him in a trade.

C. Rockies waive him and his $20 hit. I could claim (same CAP hit). But if there is no claim, as in the past the Rockies cannot bid.
The Sox also cannot bid. If the Sox wanted him back, he shoulda claimed.

This all assumes same year action.

Simplest way to look at this, and to track it is like this

Lets say A's waive Big Papi, he can not acquire this player in any way shape or fashion, through trade or waivers unless the cap number is equal to its current steroid inflated amount...

there may be cases where this could be hard to follow and someone will have lots of paperwork to keep.

there are players waived/signed/rewaived a few times over by a few depending on his injury or hot/cold spells etc.

keeping up with who had him at what price and who he can be traded to and cannot could end up very complicted if both new rules apply.

there is slao memory issues as if i waive a guy in april and he gets waived and passed around a bit and at the deadline i get him in a trade i may have forgotten i once had him at a higher price and either do not want that trade now or do not have the cap space to make the trade.

being deadline before that might get noticed other trades involing any of the dealt players could happen and they all get voided messing everyone up.

this is not a far fetched notion as we all know especially at deadline trades happen fast and furious.

Perhaps we could amend the idea to exempt players who were waived for say $9 or less.

Limit tracking to $10 CAP hits or more.

i don't know if this fits in anywhere or may be a different thing completely but it may help stem the too easy way of getting players and waiving them only to be added and removed from rosters at will when not claimed.

teams can have any amount of waived guys sitting in reserve when they are not claimed or bid on making it possible to have a nice little reserve bench so to speak.

what if we issue a certain amount of waived players rule where you can only have say 5 waived players at a time on your roster.

this may make spending with low risk but possible reward with many 1.00 support types in reserve tougher and also not so easy to make the you bid mine i bid yours clear salary deals.

The proposed trade rule (other poll) would prevent you from re-acquiring a player in a trade that you previously had the same season if his salary decreased from the 1st time you owned him.

The trade rule would prevent a team from waiving a player, having another team sign him for less, than trading the player at a reduced contract back to the 1st team.

y'know this is looking very complicated with lots of paperwork and could possibly really lower trading.

how about something much easier like this,

i waive bonds at 15 and am on the hook for 1/3 his salary if he is not claimed but bid on.

i must keep it on my roster like we do with waived guys not claimed or bid at the bottom of my roster page and it stays for either that year or length of contract[vote].

should i reaquire him at any point that 1/3 gets added back on,say i get him back and he is 7.00 plus 5 tacked back on now 12 and the years stay the same.

yes i may have saved a couple of bucks but maybe not if i get him back at 12 and still must tack on the 5 to 17.

would seem easier to see on rosters,easier to keep track of and everyone will know what is involved in any trades that may include past ownership and payrolls would always be up to date
with the inclusion of waived players owed 1/3 salary[rounded up if an odd number so 11 waived is 4.]

this seems much easier and maybe someone else can simplify it even more.

I think carrying a portion of the salary like the 1/3 suggested would be best. kind of like the way signing bonuses accelerate when a player is cut in the nfl.

also considering the turnover this league has seen, i would also suggest some type partial exemption for in coming owners in lieu of an expansion draft.

I honestly don't think any of these proposed rules are necessary. If any of the above situations happened, that would be collusion, and we know what would happen if it's collusion.

Seems to me that it would be too big of a headache to keep track of all this. I trust the integrity of the owners in this league.

Unless we go the Dodgers route. Once you give up a player, thats it, no getting him back for a year.

to me the trade part is confusing, if you waive a guy and he changes hands after bidding, you cannot acquire him this season..period


You could not trade for the guy if you waived him, and he was bid on..not really that hard to track, teams just need to not do it...

we could do the 1/3 of salary if waived for contracts over $10 the rest waived..

New owners would get a one time waiver of this rule starting next season if needed, hopefully everyone would be back anyway
